Property owners have a checklist to help prevent homeless encampments

Fresno County officials are offering a checklist to help property owners with ongoing efforts to clean up homeless encampments.

Checklist items include trimming overgrown trees and brush to prevent camping and illegal activities.

Officials reminded property owners that it is their responsibility to maintain their property and keep it up to code.

Officials from a county working group on homeless encampments reported cleaning out nine large camps since November 2015.

For the 2016-17 fiscal year, the county spent around $140,000 to clean up homeless camps.
