Vice President Mike Pence arrived to Bakersfield before noon on Tuesday to continue his three-day trip to California.

Pence joined Rep. Kevin McCarthy for a political reception at Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace. The two were met with protesters across the street, multiple news outlets reported.

Pence will travel to Mojave Tuesday afternoon to tour a test center for commercial space flight.

The vice president offered assistance to California when speaking with Gov. Jerry Brown Monday evening for the tragic fires burning in Northern California.

“We are with you,” he said. “The dryness of the climate, the strength of the winds, you all in California know much better than this Midwesterner does, but I can assure you as I did the governor, that the federal government stands ready to provide any and all assistance to the state of California as your courageous firefighters and first responders confront this widening challenge.”
