After smelling smoke in their jet, passengers had to take action at Fresno airport

Passengers on an Allegiant Air flight in Fresno made an emergency exit onto the tarmac Monday after a mechanical problem led to smoke in the cabin.

The incident on Allegiant Flight 514 happened about noon at Fresno Yosemite International Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed.

The plane, coming to Fresno from Las Vegas, had a mechanical issue during taxiing, and about 150 passengers and six crew members got off the jet using the rear stairs, Allegiant said in a statement.

The mechanical issue caused a visible haze in the cabin, Allegiant said. The crew decided to stop short of the gate and ask the passengers to deplane with any carry-on items. Passengers were directed to the terminal, where they picked up their baggage.

No injuries were reported.
