Around the Valley | Bikes for Books, Tamejavi festival seeks coordinator and more
Top summer readers receive bikes
Granville Homes donated 250 bicycles, helmets and locks to the top performers in the Boys & Girls Club of Fresno County’s Books for Bikes summer reading program.
Organizers say the program attracted nearly 300 participants ages 6-18.
The bikes were presented to the children Friday afternoon.
Tamejavi festival seeks leader
Tamejavi Culture and Art Series is seeking a volunteer coordinator to do community outreach and oversee the event that takes place Sept. 9. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Sept. 1.

Mayor to speak at Lions meeting
Fresno Mayor Lee Brand will speak at the North Fresno Lions meeting at noon Aug. 28 at the Ramada Inn, 324 E. Shaw Ave. Topics include his achievements and future plans for the city. The luncheon costs $20.

Valley Animal Center fundraiser
Valley Animal Center will hold “Music for Mutt” 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at 3934 N. Hayston Ave. The event features music by Rockville and Beatleville and includes dinner, beer and wine vendors and raffle prizes. Tickets cost $30 or $35 at the door and proceeds benefit the animal shelter.
