An ADT commercial about home security and alarm system service is making its rounds around the country and it features quite the familiar face to Fresno folks.

Fresno Police Department Chief Jerry Dyer is prominently featured in one of the latest ADT commercials, dressed in his formal black uniform, which includes the yellow and blue Fresno Police patches embroidered on the upper arms.

Dyer speaks in a matter-of-factly tone while giving his take on a domestic violence incident that the commercial states took place in Fresno.

“ADT has a system in place where they can inquire about the victim,” Dyer says in the commercial. “And that’s what happened.”

The commercial also features a female victim named “Katie” who recounts her story about being beaten by her boyfriend.

She then talks about how a remote to her ADT home security system allowed her to call for help.

The incident happened on March 14. ADT in June donated $5,000 each to the Marjaree Mason Center and the Fresno Police Department’s chief’s foundation for their part in rescuing her. Dyer said the donations were not received with the understanding that a commercial would be made. He added that video from the news conference was used in the commercial not to endorse the company’s products but to endorse the concept of alarm systems.

In the commercial, Dyer talks about how the victim’s access to ADT’s system, through the use of a panic button on a remote, helped save Katie.

“All of this occurred in four minutes or less, which more than likely prevented her from being more seriously injured or even killed,” Dyer said.

Dyer also is briefly shown in a different ADT commercial that’s aired nationally 1,245 times as of Tuesday evening, according to ISpot.TV.

Among the cities that the commercial has been confirmed to have been shown in are San Jose, Chicago and Washington D.C.

Dyer has been Fresno’s police chief for 16 years.
