CHP officer writing citation suffers moderate injuries when truck hits cruiser
A California Highway Patrol officer was injured Monday as he was writing a citation near Bullard Avenue and Highway 41.
The officer was standing half-inside his open car door about 4:05 p.m. when a truck pulling a trailer struck the CHP vehicle, pushing the vehicle and slamming the door into the officer’s body, Officer Vic Taylor said.
The officer had no time to react, Taylor said.
The driver of the truck, which was traveling east on Bullard Avenue at about 25 mph, was reaching for an item and took his eyes off the road, Taylor said.
The officer, who wasn’t identified, had moderate injuries and was taken to the Kaiser Hospital in north Fresno, Taylor said.
The driver of the truck was not cited, Taylor said.
