Reedley man dies in solo vehicle accident east of Minkler
An 82-year-old Reedley man died in a solo vehicle accident on Saturday afternoon east of Minkler, the California Highway Patrol said.
The man, who was not named, was one of two passengers in a 2001 Tundra traveling west on Highway 180, west of Alta Avenue, around 1:30 p.m. when the driver drifted off the right shoulder, overcorrected to the left, swerved right again and overturned, the CHP said. The truck came to rest on the left shoulder of the highway.
A 78-year-old female passenger in the back seat was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. The man, who sat in the front passenger seat, died at the scene. The 60-year-old driver was not injured.
Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash, the CHP said. A request for prosecution of unintentional manslaughter is anticipated, the agency said.
