Driver dies after colliding with big rig, CHP says he was not wearing seat belt

A man died Friday after his Mustang collided with a tractor-trailer rig on Highway 99 on the Clovis Avenue northbound off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officer Ryan Murakoshi said the Mustang driver was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Murakoshi said the Mustang was traveling on the shoulder of the Clovis Avenue off-ramp when it ran into the truck.

A door from the Mustang broke off, and the driver was ejected. The driver of the Mustang, who was between the ages of 25 and 30 but otherwise not identified pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Murakoshi said the truck driver was not hurt.
