He was in a rear room where a fire started and was unable to escape
A Fresno man who died in a northwest Fresno house fire last Sunday has been identified as Aram Ovoian, 61, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said.
The fire was reported about 3:15 a.m. Sunday at 202 W. Brier Circle, west of Woodward Park
When firefighters arrived they found a man was trapped in a bedroom near the rear of the house where the fire started. Rescuers couldn’t safely enter the room until 15 minutes later and found the man dead.
Ovoian’s sister suffered smoke inhalation trying to get him out. She survived.
On Friday, Deputy Fire Marshal Don MacAlpine said there are no indications of any criminal activity, but that the official cause is undetermined.
