Around the Valley | Driving out hunger
Independence from Hunger food drive
Grocery Outlet Bargain Market has launched the seventh annual Independence from Hunger Food Drive through the month of July. There is a variety of ways to help: customers can donate $5 and receive a $5 coupon off a future purchase; pick up food items marked as high-need or a pre-made bag filled with groceries selected by local food agencies, or donate online at groceryoutlet.com/donate. The drive will help food banks in Fresno, Clovis, Madera, Dinuba, Hanford, Visalia and Tulare.
Candidate meet and greet
The Fresno County Democratic Party will hold a meet and greet with lieutenant governor candidate Jeff Bleich 2 to 3 p.m. July 24 at the group’s headquarters, 1035 U St. The former top aide to former President Barack Obama will be answering the community’s questions.
Therapy ranch wins award
The Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch has been awarded the “California Image Award” by The Native Daughter of the Golden West. Four organizations are picked for doing good for the community. This year’s winners include Sharpsteen Museum, Levi Strauss & Co. and Knott’s Berry Farm.
Around the Valley is compiled by Candice Torres and lists events, meetings and announcements for local nonprofit agencies and community groups, including class reunions and donation announcements.
