Firefighters battling brush fire in Cambria’s East Village

Update, 2:25 p.m.

Authorities have confirmed that the brush fire is a wildfire, and there is no current estimate on how many acres have burned, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office. Evacuations are in progress for residents on Wall Street, Bridge Street and those in the area of the Santa Rosa Cemetery, the Sheriff’s Office said, and officials advise anyone living near those areas should also prepare to evacuate.

Update, 2:05 p.m.

There is an evacuation order in place for people in the area of Bridge Street north of Main Street, according to SLO County’s Office of Emergency Services.

Update, 1:50 p.m.

Evacuation warnings are in place for residences and businesses on both Main and Bridge streets, according to Cal Fire. The fire is currently one acre.

Cal Fire firefighters are working to extinguish a one-and-a-half to two-acre brush fire at Main and Bridge streets in Cambria’s East Village.

The fire was first reported at 1:16 p.m., according to Cal Fire Capt. David Kay. As of 1:26 p.m., firefighters had just arrived on scene and had begun actively suppressing the fire, Kay said.

The fire has started to get into some eucalyptus trees, Kay said.

According to the scanner, the fire is spreading at a moderate rate and has the potential to grow to 20 acres. The fire grew to one-and-a-half to two acres by 1:45 p.m., according to the scanner.
