Backyard fire ignites carport, then home in Fresno
A two-alarm fire that began in the backyard of a vacant home Tuesday afternoon quickly lit a carport on fire and spread into the house, said Fresno Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Price.
No injuries were reported after debris caught fire at 436 Fresno St., Price said. Firefighters arrived two minutes after the call came in at 3:35 p.m., and the blaze was under control by 3:50 p.m. Forty-five firefighters were on the scene because a second alarm was called, Price said.
The home was supposed to be vacant, and although Price noted that there was “homeless activity” in the area, firefighters were not sure who or what caused the fire.
Damage is estimated at $20,000, Price said.
