1 house destroyed in wildfire near Coalinga, but containment nears

A brush fire destroyed one home and spread to nearly 400 acres near Coalinga, according to Cal Fire.

The fire was reported Friday afternoon and initially spread to 60 acres of grass near Los Gatos Creek Road, west of Derrick Road.

On Sunday the fire was reported at 357 acres and was at 50 percent containment.

Fire Capt. Tim Gehret, from Cal Fire, said that the the fire has been stopped from any forward spread, evacuation orders were lifted and there was no longer any threat to structures.

Gehret also said the fire had destroyed three sheds. Steep terrain and high temperatures made the blaze hard to fight.

Los Gatos Creek Road remains closed.

Cal Fire hopes to have the blaze fully contained by Wednesday.
