What if a queen is the one telling the tale at children’s story hour?
When Drag Queen Story Hour came to downtown Fresno on Saturday, some 30 children and their parents crowded into Common Space to hear tales told by Leilani Price, wearing a ballroom gown and a sparkly crown.
The story hour was hosted by My LBGT Plus and featured four drag queens in all to read to the youngsters.
Similar events have been held across the country, aiming to familiarize youths with the gay community and give them “glamorous, positive and unabashedly queer role models,” according to www.dragqueenstoryhour.org.
“I want them to grow up, their parents want them to grow up to know that there is different people,” said Lynda Gray, who brought her grandchildren. “We’re all different. We need to love each other and support each other.”
