Big rig driver killed when his Volvo veers off Highway 99 and into eucalyptus trees

A 41-year-old Sanger man was killed Saturday after his Volvo tractor-trailer veered off of Highway 99 south of Tulare and crashed into two eucalyptus trees and a barbed wire fence, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The victim was driving a 2015 Volvo north on Highway 99 near Avenue 120 around 3:14 p.m. when it veered to the right and left the roadway. The driver, whose identity was not released, died at the scene.

The crash is under investigation. CHP’s Visalia office said it is unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
