Driver killed after he was struck by a van in Fresno is identified

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Thursday released the name of a driver killed while trying to change a tire Tuesday night in Fresno.

The victim was identified as Ruben Lerma, 38, of Fresno, said Tony Botti, spokesman of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Fresno police had initially reported that Lerma was struck by a van while trying to retrieve a tire that had fallen off his vehicle near Hayes and Garland avenues. He died at the scene. The driver contacted police to report the crash.
