Minor injuries for CHP officer in Visalia crash

A California Highway Patrol officer was injured Wednesday when his Ford SUV was struck by another vehicle in the Visalia area.

The CHP only identified the injured man as “Officer Martinez,” who sustained moderate injuries. The crash took place about 4 p.m. as the officer was parked on the shoulder of eastbound Highway 198 east of Plaza Drive assisting a disabled vehicle. Shavonne Navarro, 30, of Tulare was driving a Chevrolet and swerved to avoid slowing traffic. Her car spun and crashed into Martinez. Martinez was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with minor injuries. Navarro was not arrested.
