He was trying to retrieve a tire that had come off his vehicle when a van hit him
A man who was trying to retrieve a tire that had fallen off his vehicle was struck and killed by a van Tuesday west of Highway 99 in Fresno, said Fresno police Lt. Carl McKnight.
The man, believed to be in his 40’s, was traveling south on Hayes Avenue just past Garland Avenue at 9 p.m Tuesday.
McKnight said the man was forced to pull over when one of his tires came off his vehicle. After he left his car to retrieve the tire, a van hit and killed him.
The impact occurred 30 yards away from where the van stopped, said McKnight.
The driver was fully cooperating with police and was the one who contacted 911.
“It seems to be a tragic and unfortunate accident,” said McKnight.
The use of drugs or alcohol was not suspected.
