Traffic slow-going on Highway 99 after construction closes lanes

Southbound traffic on Highway 99 is backed up for miles due to construction near Shields Avenue.

The left and middle lanes on southbound Highway 99, just south of Ashlan Avenue, is closed off to traffic, the California Highway Patrol reported. The left lane on northbound Highway 99, just north of McKinley Avenue, is also shut down, but traffic has not been as adversely affected.
