Sinkhole opens up in Oakhurst near elementary school

A sinkhole opened up in Oakhurst on Tuesday just down the road from Oakhurst Elementary School.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office reported the hole was about 12 inches in diameter and the road will be closed overnight.

Motorists are advised to use Elliot Drive and Road 426 or Hangtree Lane as detours around the sinkhole.
