Edison High student who drowned to be honored by youth group
Youth Leadership Institute on Wednesday will honor the Edison High School senior who drowned Saturday, recognizing his accomplishments during the institute’s Community According to Youth Summit.
The student, Neng Thao, 18, will be honored for his efforts while a part of Youth Leadership Institute and City of Fresno Youth Commission.
Thao was at the San Joaquin River in northwest Fresno with his family on Saturday, celebrating his older brother’s graduation from Fresno State with honors, when he was swept under the water. His body was recovered later by rescue crews.
Thao’s work will be highlighted during the event and other members will receive honors in his spirit followed by a candlelight vigil in his honor.
The summit will be held at Westside Church of God, 1422 W. California Ave. on Wednesday. The summit will begin at 5:30 p.m.
