Clinging to a bar in swift canal, woman pulled to safety by firefighters

A woman was rescued Tuesday morning from a Fresno canal, according to Emergency Medical Services officials.

The 60-year-old woman was seen hanging onto a step bar in the canal about 10:50 a.m. near McKinley Avenue and Thesta Street.

She was pulled from the canal about 20 minutes later by the Fresno Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue team, said Capt. Kris Townsend.

She is expected to fully recover.
