La Quinta, Marriott, Black Bear Diner are coming to Clovis in 2018

Clovis has an 83 percent hotel occupancy rate, a strong number for any city and a reason two new hotels are coming to town.

The city has about 600 rooms with eight hotels now, but with two new hotels, the city’s room count will rise to nearly 800 in 2018.

A La Quinta Inn is under construction at 1508 Clovis Ave., south of the Barnyard Shopping Center. The 39,100-square-foot, three-story hotel will have 80 rooms, said Shawn Miller, city business development manager.

The Clovis Avenue hotel has been under way for months, with much of that time taken to build a parking structure under the hotel, Miller said.

Dirt also is being moved for a Marriott Towne Place Suites near the intersection of Shaw and Helm avenues.

The 120,000-square-foot, three-story hotel is south of Hilton Gardens Inn and west of the Shaw Village shopping center. The Marriott, which will be set back from Shaw Avenue along the southern property line, will have 114 rooms, Miller said.

Just west of Hilton Gardens, along Shaw Avenue, a Black Bear Diner is being built, Miller said.

The hotels and restaurant will take about a year to complete, he said.
