A 27-year-old San Diego woman was killed early Saturday morning when the 2008 Ford she was riding in drifted off Highway 99 in Tulare and sliced through a fence then collided with farm equipment, throwing her from the vehicle, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened sometime between 12:30 and 1:30 a.m. just north of Avenue 200, the CHP said.

The driver, Jesus Suazo, 24, of Pixley, was traveling south on Highway 99 with the woman passenger when the crash happened. Suazo fled the scene but was located nearby and transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital in Visalia with moderate injuries. He was arrested, the CHP said.

The cause of the collision is under investigation, but alcohol is believed to be a factor, the CHP said.
