A surge in dangerous crime has led to a community meeting in Malaga on Tuesday night.

The unincorporated community, south of Fresno, has about 1,000 residents and is patrolled by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. in the Arriaga Community Center, 3582 S. Winery Ave.

Recent events that have led to the meeting include an officer-involved shooting; a memorial for a former Malaga teen who was killed during an attempted robbery that has turned into a gang marker; a drive-by shooting into a home; a youth beaten; and an uptick in gang, drug and dangerous traffic activities.

County law enforcement officials and representatives of nonprofit organizations, including the Marjaree Mason Center and Hope Now for Youth, are expected to participate in the meeting and answer questions of residents.
