Fire in hot water heater closet chars Visalia home

A Visalia home suffered an estimated $50,000 in damage Thursday afternoon after a fire started in the hot water heater closet.

Battalion Chief Danny Wristen said the fire at 711 E. Roosevelt Ave. was reported just after noon. The first arriving units saw heavy smoke as the fire had spread into the attic.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause is under investigation.
