13 displaced after Visalia fire, 1 sent to hospital

A fire in Visalia early Sunday displaced 13 people who occupied two homes that were damaged by flames.

When firefighters arrived at a home at 2141 N. Mora Court, heavy smoke and fire were seen coming from the south side of the home and roof, Battalion Chief Brian Adney said. The fire had spread to the side of the home and then transferred to a roof of a neighboring home at 2135 N. Mora Court, he said.

Firefighters controlled the flames about 20 minutes after arriving around 1:41 a.m., Adney said.

Ten adults and three chidren were able to evacuate after the first fire unit arrived. Adney said one person was taken to the hospital via ambulance but their condition was unknown Sunday. The Red Cross was assisting the families.

Damages were estimated at $45,000 to the first home and around $12,000 for the neighboring home, Adney said.

Two fire inspectors were called out. The exact cause of the fire was still undetermined.
