No seatbelt + crash = broken arm
Two people were injured Friday in a crash northwest of Porterville, the California Highway Patrol said.
Manuel Valencia, 22, of Strathmore, suffered major injuries including a broken arm after Elizabeth Valencia, 39, of Strathmore, drove onto the path of an oncoming vehicle around 7:15 a.m., the CHP said.
Elizabeth Valencia was driving a 1997 Toyota west on Avenue 184 when she entered the intersection at Road 192 as Rodolfo Lopez Esquivel, 27, of Poplar, was driving his 2000 Chevrolet north.
The CHP said the Chevrolet hit the left rear side of the Toyota where Manuel Valencia was sitting without a seat belt. He was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for treatment.
Esquivel’s passenger, Denise Martinez, 24, reported chest and shoulder pain, the CHP said. Esquivel and Elizabeth Valencia were not injured.
Alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash, the CHP said.
