Portion of Highway 41 in Fresno to be dedicated to ex-Gottschalks chairman Joe Levy
A one-mile portion of Highway 41 between Bullard and Herndon avenues in northeast Fresno will soon be dedicated as the Joe Levy Memorial Highway.
Levy was head of the Fresno-based Gottschalks department store chain and a community icon whose contributions ranged from advocating for women’s professional advancement to playing a key role in getting highways built in Fresno. Levy was a member of the California Transportation Commission. He died in 2014.
A dedication ceremony will be held at Pardini’s Banquets, 2257 W. Shaw Ave., at 9 a.m. Friday.
