Fresno County coronavirus cases push past 24,000 infections, region numbers increase

The California Department of Public Health reported Thursday that Fresno County had an increase of 139 cases, for a total of 24,071 infections since the pandemic began.

The state numbers reflect cases from Wednesday, and may not represent a “true day-over-day change” due to testing delays.

No new deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus were reported for Fresno County on Thursday by the state. The county will update its number of deaths Friday.

As of Wednesday, the number of fatalities stood at 239, representing the largest number of deaths in the six-county central San Joaquin County region.

Across California, there were 4,430 new confirmed cases Wednesday, bringing the statewide total to 683,529 infections, according to Thursday’s data. There have been 12,550 deaths statewide since the start of the pandemic.

Around the region

Merced County on Thursday reported 70 new confirmed cases, pushing its total to 7,814 infections. The county reported two additional deaths, pushing its total number of fatalities to 114.

Madera County on Thursday reported 16 new confirmed cases, bringing its total number to 3,567 infections. The county had no new deaths, 53 total.

Mariposa County hadn’t updated its numbers Thursday. As of Wednesday, it had 71 confirmed cases, and two deaths.

Tulare County on Thursday reported 102 new confirmed cases, bringing its total to 13,775. The county also reported five additional deaths, for a total of 229.

Kings County hadn’t updated its numbers Thursday. As of Wednesday, it had 6,021 total infections, and 72 deaths.
