13 coronavirus deaths reported in Fresno County, cases climb across San Joaquin Valley

Thirteen new deaths in Fresno County are attributed to the coronavirus pandemic since Friday, according to new numbers released Tuesday.

That brings the county’s total death toll to 239, and the total number of cases has reached 23,295. The county added 204 cases on Tuesday.

The coronavirus continues to afflict those between the age groups of 18-49 the most, according to local health data. Close contact and community spread have been determined as a cause of most cases so far.

Other counties

Four new deaths were recorded in Merced County from COVID-19, with an additional 37 cases. In that county, 110 people have died from the virus. It has recorded a total of 7,690 cases.

Madera County recorded one new death Tuesday as it also confirmed 25 new cases. The total number of deaths in Madera County is 51 and 3,484 total cases.

In Tulare County, no new deaths were reported, but an additional 178 cases were added. In total, 216 people have died in Tulare County, and 13,609 cases have been recorded. Tulare County has the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases in the region, behind Fresno County.

With six days left of August, the central San Joaquin Valley has reached 235 deaths; Kings County reported a death late Monday. Fresno County has reported 101 deaths in August.
