Fresno adds 327 new cases of COVID-19, no deaths. City employee tests positive
Fresno County added another 327 positive cases of coronavirus to its already leading total among the counties in the central San Joaquin Valley.
The total now stands at 16,272 cases since the pandemic began. There were no new deaths reported in Fresno County on Wednesday so the total remained at 157.
The same can’t be said for the statewide numbers.
California officially reported 202 new deaths from the coronavirus Wednesday, the second-most of any day since the start of the pandemic. The state set a record last Friday with 219 COVID-19 fatalities reported.
The Valley has reached 504 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Valley counties
Tulare County added 178 cases to reach 10,078 since the pandemic began. The death total remained unchanged at 193.
Merced County reported nine deaths Wednesday, bringing the total to 60. Another 177 cases drove that total to 4,760.
Madera County tallied four more deaths in the county that now has 36 total. At 2,208 cases, the total rose by 94 from the previous day
Mariposa County did not report any changes to its 59 cases and two deaths.
Kings County has not reported since for Sunday.
Fresno city employee infected
A Fresno city employee tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a letter issued to all workers on Tuesday.
The employee has not been at work since July 28, the letter says.
Officials are working to speak to anyone who may have been in contact with the person, as well as clean the areas where the infected person worked, according to the letter.
The letter was not specific about in which department the employee worked.
