Fresno County coronavirus case count surges past 15,000

Fresno County’s Department of Public Health reported Saturday that its total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is now 15,083 since the first cases were identified in early March.

That figure, from the California Department of Public Health, represents cases as of Friday night and is an increase of 644 from the county’s previous update through Thursday night.

No new fatalities were reported Saturday by the county, leaving the death toll in Fresno County at 138 to date.

Mariposa County reported two new cases today, bringing the total to 56 with no new deaths.

Elsewhere in the central San Joaquin Valley, the counties of Madera, Merced and Tulare are no longer reporting on weekends.

Kings County typically updates its numbers in the early evening.
