Kings County adds 52 more coronavirus cases, closes in on 3,000 total

Kings County reported 52 additional coronavirus cases Sunday, pushing the total since the pandemic begin to 2,970.

No new deaths were reported, leaving total fatalities at 39, including a Corcoran State Prison inmate who reportedly died at an outside hospital earlier this week.

Of the latest cases, 47 were among the county’s general population, according to an update provided by the Kings County Department of Public Health in Hanford, bringing that total to 1,673.

Those considered recovered in the general population remained at 787.

Five additional cases were reported in state correctional facilities in Avenal or Corcoran, increasing the total there to 1,161, with recovered patients holding at 883.

There have been 136 cases in skilled nursing facilities, with 76 patients having recovered.

Twenty-two of the county’s deaths involving complications of COVID-19 have been in nursing homes, 13 in the general population and four in the state prisons.

No other county in the central San Joaquin Valley had posted a caseload update as of Sunday night.

Fresno County has the highest total of positive results to date in the six-county central Valley region with 8,282 through Saturday, with 1,871 recovered and 88 deaths.

Tulare County saw four more deaths reported Friday and 169 additional cases, bringing the respective totals to 152 and 5,678.
