The Juvenile Justice campus reported two Coronavirus cases at their facility.

Chief Probation Officer Kirk Haynes reported a youth who was booked into the Fresno County Probation Department’s Juvenile Justice Campus, and a staff member who works at the facility each have tested positive for COVID-19.

The name of the youth and staff member are being withheld for confidentiality reasons.

Officials at Juvenile Justice Campus said they immediately implemented protocols to transfer the youth with a positive test to a designated quarantined medical living unit within the facility.

In an effort to limit exposure to staff and youth, juvenile offenders brought into the facility are initially housed in an Intake Unit for 14 days and monitored by medical staff for any symptoms. If no symptoms are present, they are reassigned to a regular housing unit on the 15th day.

As of July 10, the Probation Department has 135 youth at Juvenile Justice Campus.

Back in April, the Juvenile Justice Campus released 38 nonviolent juvenile offenders to lower the risk of spreading the coronavirus.
