Fresno County’s latest 250-plus coronavirus cases push pandemic total past 6,000
Fresno County surpassed 6,000 total coronavirus cases Saturday, with the health department reporting 259 new positive test results for COVID-19.
No additional deaths were reported, leaving fatalities at 77. Seventeen more patients were listed as recovered for a total of 1,369 and two more having been hospitalized at some point for a total of 394.
The total case count stands at 6,110, with the following sources of transmission:
- 103 (travel-related)
- 2,028 (close contact)
- 1,776 (community-spread/unknown)
- 2,203 (under investigation)
Elsewhere in the Valley
Madera County was among the central San Joaquin Valley counties that had not updated its report. As of Friday, the county had recorded 578 positive tests since the pandemic began.
The county has had five deaths and 335 people recover.
Mariposa County last updated Thursday with a total of 27 positive tests, including one death and 18 recovered.
Merced County reported a total of 1,272 cases, with 708 still active and 11 deaths, through Friday.
Kings County reported 32 additional cases in the general community Saturday and two more in skilled nursing homes. With the unchanged 1,146 positive tests returned at state prison facilities in Avenal and Corcoran, that makes for a total of 2,634 positive tests, with 1,542 recovered and 32 deaths.
Of the total cases, 1,354 now have been among the general population and 134 in skilled nursing facilities.
Tulare County does not update its numbers on weekends or holidays. Through its report Friday, the county had 4,627 total cases with 3,270 recovered and 136 deaths.
