In one-month span, Fresno County’s coronavirus count increases by nearly 4,000 positive tests

The number of coronavirus cases in Fresno County increased by triple digits in one day once more.

And the county’s COVID-19 count shot up by nearly 4,000 positive tests in the past month.

The Fresno County Department of Health reported on Friday 225 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of positive coronavirus tests to 5,851.

Exactly one month ago on June 3, Fresno County had reported 1,944 total cases.

That’s an increase of 3,907 new cases.

No new deaths were reported Friday with the county remaining at 77 coronavirus-related deaths. It was at 37 deaths on June 3.

There were seven more patients hospitalized because of COVID-19, bringing the total number of hospitalizations in the county to 392 since the pandemic began in early March.

That’s a 6.7% hospitalization rate among people who’ve tested positive (the percentage does not include those who contracted the coronavirus but never were tested).

Fresno County’s positivity rate, meanwhile, registered at 8.7% with 5,851 people positive for COVID-19 among 67,194 tests processed.

And of those who’ve tested positive, approximately 3,600 of them were in the age group of 18-49 years old.

The good news for Fresno County is there has been a recovery rate of 23.1% among those who’ve tested positive. And that figure could be higher when factoring those who contracted the coronavirus, never were tested, but nonetheless recovered.

Fresno County reported 47 new recoveries, bringing its total to 1,352.

Elsewhere in the Valley

Madera County has 238 active cases of the coronavirus among a total of 578 positive tests since the pandemic began.

A month ago, it had 129 total positive tests.

In all, the county has had five deaths and 335 recoveries.

Mariposa County did not provide updated figures Friday. The county had 27 positive tests as of Thursday with one death and 18 recoveries. Mariposa County had 16 cases and one death a month ago.

Merced County reported a total of 1,272 cases with 708 still active, along with 11 deaths.

The county was at 310 total cases on June 3.

Kings County reported 14 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its total to 2,600 positive tests since the outbreak started.

That’s 1,322 cases among its general population, 1,146 cases in correctional facilities in the county and 132 cases in skilled nursing facilities.

A month ago on June 3, the county reported a total of 1,168 cases.

As of Friday, Kings County had a total of 32 deaths related to COVID-19.

Tulare County reported 4,627 total cases with 1,221 still active.

The county has endured a total of 136 deaths.

A month ago, Tulare County had 2,206 positive tests and 90 deaths.
