Coronavirus deaths, cases and hospitalizations on the rise in Fresno County

Three more COVID-19 deaths in Fresno County were reported since the weekend, and nearly 100 new cases were reported.

That brings Fresno’s deaths up to 46 and total positive cases to 2,216. Tulare County reported a similar uptick on Monday, with 2,220 total cases.

Fresno also saw a slight increase in the number of patients who are hospitalized after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Madera County reported nine additional cases on Monday, bringing the total there up to 172.

Kings County added 29 new cases Monday for a total of 641 cases.

Dr. Rais Vohra said Fresno County’s “doubling time” in new cases and additional deaths has shortened from three weeks to two weeks. The county has boosted contact tracing efforts for new cases and is working with skilled nursing facilities to contain outbreaks.

“It’s up to everyone,” Vohra said. “Whenever you make a conscious decision to wash your hands, socially distance and wear a mask, you are helping us to be a part of the solution. You are helping flatten the curve.”
