Fresno, Madera counties each report a new COVID-19 death. Region sees 162 new cases

Fresno and Madera counties each reported a new death related to the coronavirus on Tuesday as the number of cases in the region rose by triple digits.

Fresno County has had 37 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, according to health officials. Thirty-two new positive cases reported on Tuesday brings the county’s total to 1,914.

Madera County health officials said Tuesday another person died from the infection, the third fatal case in the county since the beginning of the pandemic. The county has tallied 117 positive patients, which is three more than the previous day.

With all of the central San Joaquin Valley counties reporting on Tuesday, the number of cases rose by 162 from the previous day.

Tulare County added 107 new cases in its Tuesday update. The county has now seen 2,004 positive cases and 89 deaths. The recovery rate now stands at more than 50% as 1,047 patients have recovered.

Kings County reported 13 new cases among the population, bringing the total to 515, not including the inmates at Avenal State Prison. A total of 622 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 through Tuesday, three more than the day prior, according to health officials.

No inmates have died from the infection but five people in Kings County have succumbed to conditions related to the coronavirus, numbers show. No new deaths were reported on Tuesday.

Merced County reported seven new cases on Tuesday, bringing the total to 308. Seven people have died from conditions related to the virus and no new deaths have been reported this week.

Mariposa County has counted 16 cases and a single death through Tuesday.

More than 1.82 million people have tested positive nationally, according to The COVID Tracking Project and Johns Hopkins University CSSE. More than 106,000 COVID-19 patients have died in the country, including more than 4,200 Californians.
