Three more patients hospitalized for coronavirus in latest Fresno County case update
As the number of confirmed coronavirus cases again increased in Fresno County, hospitalizations due to COVID-19 grew slightly, too.
The Fresno County Department of Public Health on Saturday reported 44 new positive test results, bringing the county’s total to 885 confirmed cases with 572 of them still active.
In addition, three new patients were in the hospital for a total of 127 hospitalizations.
That translates to a 14.35% hospitalization rate in Fresno County among those who’ve received positive test results for the coronavirus infection.
Fresno County’s recovery rate from COVID-19, meanwhile, is at 35.37% with 313 recoveries among the 885 total confirmed cases. That recovery rate does not include people who contracted the coronavirus but weren’t tested, thus never registering a positive test result with the county.
Combined with 66 new cases reported Saturday by Tulare County, 10 by Kings County and one by Madera County, there have been a combined 2,484 cases in the six-county central San Joaquin Valley region.
Sixty-one people have died, including two more reported Saturday by Tulare County, with 672 people having recovered.
Saturday marked the fifth straight day that at least 100 new cases have been reported in the region.
Fresno County’s death total remains at nine. The county’s two most recent coronavirus-related deaths were that of an 86-year-old woman and an 89-year-old man. Both were nursing home residents.
None of the county’s previous seven COVID-19 deaths were nursing home residents, though some were also elderly, according to Dr. Rais Vohra, interim health officer with the Fresno County Department of Public Health.
In total, Fresno County has received 10,292 test results.
