Another person dies as coronavirus cases push toward 1,000 in Tulare County
Nearly 1,000 people in Tulare County have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Tulare County Health and Human Services agency added 58 new cases in its Wednesday update after reporting an increase of 101 Tuesday.
In all, the county has 916 positive cases out of nearly 3,000 tests conducted. An additional 834 people are under self-quarantine and being monitored by health officials. Also, 150 people have recovered.
The county also confirmed Wednesday that another person has died from complications of COVID-19, the coronavirus, bringing the total deaths in the county to 41..
Elsewhere in the region
The number of coronavirus cases in the six-county central San Joaquin Valley region hit 2,000 on Tuesday. Fifty-six people have died in the six-county region.
The bulk of the cases are split between Tulare and Fresno County, which reported 724 positive cases from more than 8,000 tests on Tuesday. More than 250 people have recovered; 110 have been hospitalized. Nine people have died.
Kings County saw a jump in cases over the past two weeks, much of its related to a single outbreak at a meat packing plant in Hanford. There are 211 total positive cases in the county as of midday Wednesday. One person has died and 33 have recovered.
Mariposa County added one confirmed case Wednesday and now has 15 cases total of the 322 tests it has administered.
Merced County has 147 cases total and three deaths. Eighty-one people had recovered. One person was re-infected.
Madera County had a total of 54 as of an update Tuesday. Two people have died and 31 have recovered.
