36 more coronavirus cases in Fresno County as Valley numbers continue to climb
Health officials reported 36 new COVID-19 cases in Fresno County on Thursday afternoon, bringing the county’s case count up to 813.
No new coronavirus deaths were reported. The county’s eighth and ninth COVID-19 deaths were nursing home residents.
The majority of those testing positive for coronavirus in Fresno County are between the age of 18 and 49 (421 people). The virus is spreading in the county primarily through close contact (nearly 40% of cases) and community transmission or unknown origin (38.3% of cases).
Of the 813 cases, 118 were hospitalized at some point – an increase of four from the previous day – and 279 are considered recovered, an increase of 16 from the day before.
Of 9,437 COVID-19 tests conducted in Fresno County that public health officials are aware of (some hospitals have not reported their total numbers to the county), the positive rate is 8.6%, health officials said.
COVID-19 across the Valley
As of Thursday evening, there were 2,260 reported COVID-19 cases in the central San Joaquin Valley, looking at Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings, Merced and Mariposa counties.
Fifty-eight people have died from coronavirus across those six counties.
Tulare County: 969 total cases – 53 new reported Thursday (151 recovered) and 43 deaths – two more reported Thursday.
Madera County: 62 cases – seven new Thursday (37 recovered) and two deaths.
Kings County: 244 cases – 11 new Thursday (35 recovered) and one death. The majority of its cases are linked to a meat packing plant in Hanford.
Mariposa County: 15 cases (12 recovered) and no deaths.
Merced County: 157 cases, three new Thursday (91 recovered) and three deaths.
