Tulare County’s good news, bad news on coronavirus: 30 more recover, but 23 new cases
Tulare County saw another double-digit jump in coronavirus cases Sunday, but on the plus side even more patients have recovered.
The 23 additional positive test results for COVID-19 brought the county’s total to 743, highest in the six counties that make up the central San Joaquin Valley region.
Thirty more people were reported to have recovered, increasing that total to 144, according to Sunday’s update by the Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency.
Of the 743 testing positive, 27 were travel-related and 408 from person-to-person contact, with 308 under investigation. There have been 40 deaths.
Fresno County had yet to post an update after reporting 633 cases on Saturday, an increase of 18 over Friday’s total. There have been eight deaths there and 223 people have recovered.
Kings County rose to 172 cases Sunday, an increase of 14, while remaining at 25 people recovered and one death.
Madera County showed no new cases in its Sunday update, leaving the total there at 51. Two people have died and 30 have recovered.
Mariposa County remains at 13 positive results, with no update since Friday. The county reported its first positive result Tuesday.
Merced County added two cases in its late Sunday afternoon update, moving the total to 142.
The number of recoveries fell by one, to 79, with the county stating it was because a person was again “symptomatic and re-testing positive for COVID-19.” There have been three deaths there.
A new by-appointment-only testing site will open Monday to all Merced County residents at the Merced County Fairgrounds, 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Merced.
