Weeklong coronavirus surge continues with 51 cases in Fresno County, 40 in Tulare County

The coronavirus pandemic continues its week-long surge in the central San Joaquin Valley, with more than 80 new cases being confirmed in the six-county region each day.

Friday continued the trend with a single-day high for the pandemic of 94 new cases.

Fresno County on Friday afternoon announced 51 new cases and one death.

Tulare County announced 40 new positive cases Friday, bringing the total in that county to 680. The death count in Tulare County still stands at 40, with no new deaths were reported Friday.

Kings County, meanwhile, had 23 new cases Friday night.

And Merced County added three new cases on Friday and a total of 134 confirmed cases as of midday Friday. Three people there have died.

As of Friday afternoon, the six-county region stands as 1,611 total cases and 54 deaths.

Around the region

Madera County had zero new cases Friday and remains at 46 positive cases. Two people have died and 30 have recovered.

Mariposa County announced 10 new cases Thursday evening – six of them children between the ages of 1 and 11 – for a total of 13 cases.

Kings County had a large jump on Thursday with 27 new positive cases. There are a total 123 total as of midday Friday. One person has died and 25 have recovered.
