Tulare County coronavirus surge continues — 50 new cases and three more deaths
In the same week that the central San Joaquin Valley saw its largest daily increase of reported cases of the coronavirus, Tulare County reported a one-day increase of 50 positive cases and three related deaths.
The Tulare County Health and Human Service Agency confirmed the new cases in a daily online update Tuesday. The total number of cases in the county stands as 578. Another 614 people are under self-quarantine and being monitored by health officials.
Tuesday’s report brings the total number of people who have died in the county to 35.
Tulare County continues to see the most positive cases in the central San Joaquin Valley, which now has a total of 1,308 cases. Tulare County also has the vast majority of the region’s 48 deaths and now has five time more deaths than neighboring Fresno County.
Around the region
The Mariposa County Health and Human Services Public Health Branch on Tuesday reported the county’s first confirmed case of COVID-19.
The 23-year-old woman is isolating at home, according to a news release. She contracted the virus from a community transmission in an area outside of Mariposa County. The county’s contact tracing team is investigating.
Merced County added six new cases Tuesday and now has a total of 116 confirmed cases. No new deaths were reported.
Kings County reported 71 positive cases Tuesday. One person has died and nine have recovered.
Fresno County reported 40 new cases of coronavirus in its Monday update, which included cases confirmed over the weekend. The total number of positive cases in the county was at 498.
Madera County has 44 positive cases as of Monday.. Two people have died and 27 have recovered.
