Kings County confirms its first case of coronavirus. Patient is quarantined
Health officials in Kings County on Friday confirmed the county’s first case of coronavirus.
The Kings County Department of Public Health is investigating whether the case was travel-related, person-to-person or community acquired. The patient has been quarantined and close contacts have been identified, according a news release from the department.
A second, non-resident, case was also confirmed. That person is being treated in isolation and the department is working to identify anyone who may have had close personal contact, including any friends, family members or health care professionals.
An employee at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in Corcoran tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. The facility is located in Kings County, though prison employees sometimes live in different areas than where their facility is located.
On Thursday, Fresno County announced the largest daily increase in positive tests since the region received its first confirmed case on March 7.
