Sporting goods stores are reopening around town. Here’s what city of Fresno is saying

After a week of closed doors, sporting goods stores in Fresno can reopen, the city of Fresno announced Wednesday.

The city administration deemed sporting goods stores as essential under the city of Fresno emergency order.

Originally, sporting goods stores were deemed non-essential and had to be closed because of the coronavirus pandemic in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

In changing its position, the city noted essential items that sporting goods stores sell including food, water, emergency supplies, ice, food storage and propane.

The city of Fresno has been under a “shelter in place” order since March 19 to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The order allows residents to leave their homes for essential services, such as grocery shopping and doctor’s appointments or going to work if their place of employment is deemed essential.

When people do leave their homes, the order instructs them to practice social distancing, keeping at least 6 feet away from others.
