A 17th coronavirus case confirmed in Tulare County. It is travel-related

Health officials have confirmed another case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Tulare County.

This brings the total number of cases in the central California county to 17.

The new patient is between the ages of 26 and 40 years old and is in self-isolation at home, health officials said.

This was a travel-related case.

Of the 17 cases in Tulare County, 12 are travel-related. Two were contracted person-to-person and three are under investigation. Another 135 people are currently under self-quarantine and being monitored by the county health department.

On Tuesday, Merced County announced its first positive case of the virus, bringing the total number of cases for the region (including Tulare, Madera, Merced and Kings counties) to 37. Fresno County reported seven new cases Monday night.

There are more than 1,800 coronavirus cases in California and 33 deaths in the state as of Monday, The New York Times reported. The California Department of Public Health is still reporting lower numbers, last updated Sunday.
