Tax Day just got pushed back amid the coronavirus pandemic. Here’s what to know

The deadline to file your taxes with the Internal Revenue Service has been pushed back from April 15 to July 15, Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin said Friday morning.

He said President Donald Trump directed the Treasury Department and the IRS to extend the deadline.

“All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties,” Mnuchin said on Twitter.

The IRS already extended the deadline to pay taxes without interest or penalties for 90 days.

Speaking at a press conference midday Friday about the new July 15 deadline, Trump said, “Hopefully by that time people will be getting back to their lives.”

“I encourage all taxpayers who may have tax refunds to file now to get your money,” Mnuchin tweeted.
