Sanger, Porterville agencies issue warnings about door-to-door coronavirus scams
Here is a warning from the Sanger Police and Porterville Fire departments during the coronavirus pandemic:
Do not fall for scams.
Both agencies sent out Facebook postings Wednesday urging residents to be on the alert after emergency orders were given because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.
Both warned of scammers going door to door in those regions.
Wrote the Sanger Police Department: “In the wake of the protocols being put in place throughout the state to combat the Coronavirus, some will seek to take advantage of the elderly and/or those not fully informed. If anyone knocks on your door, or calls you claiming to sell vaccines, tests, or offers funds or relief related to the Coronavirus, they do not represent the Government, and are most likely trying to defraud you. Do not open the door for anyone you aren’t familiar with and always ask for credentials. Do not give out your personal information over the phone. Report any suspected fraud to your local Law Enforcement.”
The Porterville Fire Department had a similar post on its Facebook page.
“Porterville Fire Department would like to remind you that during this difficult time, people may try and take advantage of you for their monitery gain. There are reports of people dressed as “police officers” and “firefighters” going door to door offering Covid 19 tests for money. We will never send someone to your door to test. If you see this type of activity please call 911 to report it.”
On Wednesday, the city of Fresno issued a “shelter in place” order for residents to limit the spread of coronavirus.
